While you’ll never have to worry about the safety of our Kauai zipline tours, it’s important to keep safety in mind when vacationing in Kauai. It’s easy to get excited about your travels, thinking of all the fun and adventure you’ll enjoy and the memories you’ll bring home, but sometimes safety falls to the back of the mind. The island is beautiful and offers endless opportunities to explore, but we have a few suggestions to help you stay safe.
First, if you rent a vehicle never leave your purse, cell phone, wallet or other valuables in the car. If you simply have to, lock them up in the trunk – but the best way to ensure you don’t become the victim of theft is to take your valuables with you.
The sun is intense, so be prepared. Be sure to bring along a waterproof sunscreen or sun block depending on your complexion, and apply it often. Sunglasses and a hat are a good idea as well! You don’t want to spend your first day or two with a painful (and potentially dangerous) sunburn.
Be aware the surf can be extremely powerful. Of course you want to enjoy the many beautiful beaches of Kauai, however it’s a good idea to swim in areas where lifeguards are present and to stay out of the water when it looks rough. Rip currents and huge rogue waves are something you absolutely want to avoid, so just use common sense.
The red dirt can leave your clothes stained for life. While it’s different from anything you’ve probably ever seen and beautiful, you don’t want to wear your good clothes when you’ll be in an area where there’s lots of red dirt. During these times you’ll want to wear older, casual clothes that you don’t mind ruining – perhaps something you can wear back home when you’re outdoors doing yard work, painting or other tasks.
If you enjoy hiking, always hike with a buddy, take water along, stay on the trail, check the weather forecast and consider a commercial operator if you aren’t experienced. Also let anyone in your group who’s not going along know where you’re hiking, and when you anticipate returning.
