Nothing else in the world provides quite the excitement and adrenalin rush of ziplining in Kauai. That said, we understand that many people have fears when it comes to riding a zipline, but we want to stress just how safe it really is. With thousands of zipline courses across the U.S., there are certain standards in place that ensure the safety of those who want to have a great time, without the worry. While we don’t advocate building a “homemade” zipline in your backyard, here are a few facts that will help you have a blast without the fear.
Of course any activity you participate in has a certain level of danger, whether it’s riding the Tilt-a-Whirl at the fall fair or mowing the grass. However, commercial ziplines are required to meet certain standards, undergo inspections, and provide equipment that keeps riders safe. Here are a few examples.
Commercial zipline courses are required by the ACCT (Association for Challenge Course Technology) to be regularly inspected and maintained. If the facility you visit is ACCT approved, this means it was designed by professionals and maintained/inspected by a third party who is qualified in maintenance and inspection of zipline facilities.
Safety gear and gadgets ensure your safety. Those who take our zipline tours are required to wear a safety harness, which is clipped to the overhead cables by an accredited ACCT trainer. These cables guide you through the course; in other words, they take you safely soaring above the beautiful landscape! Helmets are not required by all commercial ziplines, however they do provide an extra element of protection.
Platforms should have safety rails for participants’ protection, as many platforms are high above the ground. In addition, hand brakes give you an added measure of control and allow you to slow down gradually before arriving at the next platform.
It’s important to note that ziplining isn’t for everyone, and some people should actually not ride. These include individuals with heart issues, those who have seizures, or anyone who is simply terrified of heights. Pregnant women should also refrain from taking a zipline tour. If you have high blood pressure or other health issues, ask your doctor if it would be safe to ride.
While taking a zipline tour in Kauai is exciting and filled with adventure, it’s vital to know that your safety comes first and that you have no worries. At Just Live!, safety always comes first. Have a blast, and put your fears behind you!
